The Cambridge Secondary 1 program is designed for students aged 11-14.
Stage 7 (11 years) – 6th Year
Stage 8 (12 years) – 7th Year
Stage 9 (13 years) – 8th Year
The Cambridge Secondary 1 program is the progression of Cambridge Primary in order to deepen competences in the English, Mathematics and Science subjects.
Teachers can evaluate students using two optional processes:
Cambridge Primary Progression Tests
Cambridge Checkpoint (External evaluation – Examination corrected by the Cambridge Examination Board)
The International School of Palmela offers the following courses for Cambridge Secondary 1:
- English
- Mathematics
- Science
- Information and Communication Technology
- Portuguese language
- Physical Education
Students take the Cambridge Checkpoint at the end of Stage 9 (8th Year). They are corrected by the Cambridge Examination Board. Through these examinations, the school evaluates students’ performance in the English, Mathematics and Science subjects.
Students are given a Statement of Achievement that indicates their progress at this stage. Students with positive results at this stage, indicate that they are able to advance to the next phase – IGCSE.
The Cambridge Checkpoint can be held in two seasons throughout the year, where the Stage 7, 8 and 9 materials are tested.
